We're Trekking for Rights!

Writer: Lori KlaassenLori Klaassen

Ellen and I are joining the UN Women Australia Trek for Rights 2025 to support women and girls impacted by conflict and crises worldwide. We will be taking part in a five-day trek through Aotearoa’s Southern Alps and aim to raise $6,000 before our journey begins! As we have covered all our travel expenses, all funds raised will assist UN Women Australia in collaboration with local women’s organisations to offer essential services, hope, and a lifeline to communities affected by war and natural disasters.

Support Women and Girls in Need

Currently, 614 million women and girls reside in conflict-affected regions. From Palestine to Ukraine, Haiti, Sudan, and Afghanistan, their numbers are increasing as geopolitical conflicts, climate change, and health and food crises worsen.

During crises, women and girls face increased risks of gender-based violence and are nearly 8 times more likely to suffer from poverty and food insecurity compared to men, yet current financial systems are failing them. Presently, less than 1% of global government aid directly supports women’s rights organisations.

The need for funding is more critical than ever.
